St. Albans Early Knights Club is the junior section of the St. Albans Chess Club, which meets at the LRERA, in Cell Barnes Lane, St. Albans, on Monday evenings from 6.15pm to 7.15pm. It is open to all school-age children keen to play and improve their chess. Parents are welcome to stay, and any help from chess playing Mums or Dads would be appreciated.

The membership fee, for the year from September 09 - May 10, will be £10, and should be paid when the new season starts on Monday 14th September. As with previous years, there will be a club league, Christmas, and end-of-season competitions, occasional training evenings, and, the “Early Knights” will be entered into the "UK Chess Challenge" tournament. Also, we hope to arrange a couple of friendly matches against other county junior clubs.

As in previous seasons, some of our better juniors played for the St. Albans 7th team, in the adult Hertfordshire Chess Leagues. They were unable to emulate last year’s great performance (of finishing 4th in the league) and finished last this time; but, they gained a lot of experience, had some good individual wins, and enjoyed themselves in the process!
Next year, once again, there will be plenty of opportunity for the "Knights" to show what they can do, and to improve their chess!

History of the Early Knights
The junior section of St. Albans Chess Club was started in September 1999, and has been popular with young chess enthusiasts ever since. Some of the original members are still here, still enjoying their chess, and much improved. Some of our earliest Knights (and some that started in the subsequent years) now play in one of our senior teams in the Hertfordshire Chess League, winning some of the games, and scaring most of their adult opponents!
