As from 6th December 2010 St Albans Chess Club moved to the County Constitutional Club 29 Ridgmont Road, St Albans, Hertfordshire AL1 3AG. St Albans Chess Club sincerely thanks actor CJ de Mooi, the ECF President for attending its first meeting at the new venue and playing a simultaneous event against our juniors. CJ won 16 out of the 18 games that he played - a very fine achievement against lively opposition.

Welcome to the website of St Albans Chess Club. If you would like to play chess either in matches or just socially then you are assured of a warm welcome. We meet on Monday evenings from 7:30 at the County Constitutional Club 29 Ridgmont Road, St Albans, Hertfordshire AL1 3AG. The venue has a licensed bar. Club nights run every week of the year, except bank holidays. In July and August we move to the White Lion pub on Sopwell Lane. Aside from the regular club nights, handicap tournaments are played at Christmas and the last club night of June, and the club champion gives a simultaneous display in September. We have seven teams in the seven divisions of the Hertfordshire League (each playing twelve or fourteen matches per year). We also enter teams into the county's four knockout tournaments (open, U160, U140 and U100). There is an internal club championship for the Silver Rook trophy and a friendly Lavers' Ladder for 15 minute games. At the start of the season we have an annual twenty-board match against Watford (the Cheshire Board).For further details, please contact enquiries@stalbanscc.org.uk

Congratulations to Jacek Winter who won the Silver Rook for the first time, beating Jeremy Fraser-Mitchell in the final. Jacek revived the tradition of taking on all St Albans players in a simultaneous last September, beating a team of twenty players and losing only one game.
